How well do you think you would be able to communicate with other people if you weren’t allowed to talk or text for a day? It would probably be pretty hard because the spoken and written word are such big parts of human communication! In John 1:14, Jesus is given a title called the Word. The reason John refers to Jesus this way is because Jesus is the ultimate means by which God has chosen to communicate to you and to me. Jesus took on flesh, meaning Jesus became a human like you and me. Notice what John 1:14 says Jesus did after He became a man: He made his dwelling among us. The Greek verb there literally means to pitch a tent. In ancient times, many people lived in tents, so this word became synonymous with living among people. Why did Jesus take on flesh and live among us? John tells us in verse 18. Jesus took on flesh so we could know God. Jesus’ death, resurrection, and eventual return make it possible for us to be reconciled to God and live forever with Him free from the sin that separates us from Him and twists everything. By placing our faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of sins, we can have a relationship with the God of the universe. We who were once enemies can now become children of God and have a growing and thriving relationship with Him, all because Jesus is God made known. Jonathon Fuller The entire Bible tells the story of how God has sought to dwell with His people, even though they rejected Him and chose sin, harming themselves and each other. Read Revelation 21:1-5. As Christians, what hope can we have, knowing we will dwell with God forever? Read Matthew 28:20 and Hebrews 4:14-16. What are some promises we have while we wait for Jesus’ bodily return? To learn more about putting your faith in JesusGod made knowncheck out our “Know Jesus” page. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. John 1:18 (NIV)
